The Lord's Prayer Bible Journaling Template

The Lord's Prayer. This is actually where my Bible journaling began. I was searching for a coloring page for my Wednesday night Bible class of elementary school kids to help them memorize the Lord's Prayer. My search led me to lots of different websites but I ended up, as I often do, on Pinterest. It was during this search that I ran into my first Bible Journaling page. I was mesmerized by the lovely art and intrigued by the prospect of a new Bible study method. I didn't find my coloring page. I ended up creating my own as I sometimes do. That coloring page then morphed into my first Bible Journaling entry. Oh, yeah, somewhere in there I found a journaling Bible on sale at Family Christian Bookstore. I already had tons of color pencils, water color pencils and water colors. So I only needed to pick up some gel matte medium to prep my page and I was off to the races. I've been very intentional about my journaling and because of that, I've only done about 1-2 entries a month. But I am enjoying it immensely and the new journey has kick-started my daily Bible Study in ways that I couldn't have imagined before. Isn't it great when you see "His will being done" in your life?

I guess all I have left to tell you is that this template is also available in my Etsy Store.

"Keeper of Trust" Book Cover Release

Keeper of Trust is the second book in the Carty Sisters Series by Mary Kay Tuberty.  It's a wonderful story of Irish immigrant Julia Carty and her new life in St. Louis. We were introduced to Julia in the first book, Keeper of Coin and her "flighty" personality was a nice contrast to her calmer sister, Anne. I'm looking forward to diving into this book as soon as it is available from Mantle Rock Publishing on April 22. Here's a teaser from the back cover.

Julia Carty resolved that she must change her ways. Her father had called her “flighty” and sent her younger sister to America ahead of her. Her beloved Martin referred to her as his “beautiful butterfly, flitting from one adventure to another.”
She had come to St. Louis in 1861 at the start of the Civil War. In the intervening years, she worked hard at the church mission and at Dempsey’s Bakery to prove she had put aside her childish habits. With the arrival of her young sister Lizzie though, she realized she had not contributed her share to the immigration fund. She left it to her sisters Anne and Kate to save the majority of passage money to bring the children out of Ireland’s poverty.
When Martin suffered a life-threatening accident and faced disabilities that would alter his life forever, he needed her love and support. When additional tragedy struck the Cartys, her dear family turned to her for strength and encouragement. Had she matured, at last? Would she be capable of sustaining them all?

Check out the first book in the series, Keeper of Coin. Click the image to visit Amazon where it is available in print or as an ebook.

Depending on the Lord

We live in a world where dependence on anything other than ourselves is hard to swallow. We tend to be very proud of our independence and ability to care for our own needs. The psalmist David reminds us that we need to depend on God. "Trust Him and he will take care of you. Delight in Him and he will give you the desires of your heart." But oh, those words are so hard to practice. I want to take out my planner and chart the way to achieve my desires. I want to build networks that ensure my success. I...I...I... It really isn't about me. As a follower of God, I have already laid everything down at the foot of the cross, including all those plans. I have to humble myself and trust in Him. This entry reminds me that I cannot do it all by myself. I need Him and He is there to help me.

"Depend on the Lord" is a Bible journaling based on the text of Psalm 37:3-6. This entry is printed out on cardstock and colored with watercolor pencils. I used a blending brush to blend the areas giving me darker shadows. After trimming it and rounding the corners, I washi-taped it in my Bible.

This template is available in my Etsy store along with others.

Book Cover Release - Ungodly Clutter

Once again, I'm honored to show you my latest book cover - "Ungodly Clutter" by Monica Mynk. Monica is one of our authors at Mantle Rock Publishing and she hails from Kentucky. She's a very interesting lady who teaches high school Chemistry. When she's not writing she loves spending time with her husband and children.

"Ungodly Clutter" is a non-fiction book that could be used for Bible studies. It was my first non-fiction cover to create and Monica had a great concept in mind, I just gave it life. Here's a short blurb about her book which will be available within the next week or so.

Have you ever felt embarrassed to invite someone into your home? Cobwebs in the corners? Laundry piled to the ceiling? Mile-high dishes in the sink? If it’s true that cleanliness is next to godliness, does that mean those of us too stressed and overworked to maintain a perfect home are ungodly? Can you be a Christian and live in a world of clutter?
Perhaps, God would be appalled to enter many of our homes, but not for the reasons we might think. Today’s world is full of sinful distractions, and many of them litter our living space without us giving a second thought. How can we cleanse our homes from the idols, temptations, and obstacles that hinder our salvation?

Bible Journaling Templates In Etsy Store

3/10/2016

About two months ago I posted my first blog about dipping my toe into the world of Bible Journaling. Along side the growing adult coloring trend, faith-based Bible margin art has been growing as well. Journaling Bibles have wide margins that allow art to be added to the pages along with notes. After much prayer I decided to add my art to my Etsy store. I'm grateful that it has been well received and I want to share some information with you via this blog.

It's often said that all you need to do Bible journaling is a pen/pencil and a Bible. While that is true, the color-loving side of us craves to "glam it up" through various mediums. My personal leanings are toward watercolor and color pencils, but the list of possible supplies is almost endless. Acrylic paint, stamps, washi tape and markers are also commonly discussed in Facebook groups or small face-to-face groups.

My digital templates are PDF documents that are already sized to fit various size margins. The document can be printed on paper and traced into the Bible. They can be printed onto vellum and taped/glued into the Bible. They can also be printed on label paper and adhered to the Bible in that fashion. After printing they can be colored with color pencils, watercolor, markers or any medium suitable for the paper. I personally have traced some and printed some on cardstock before coloring and placing them in my Bible.

My first store entry was "The Joy of the Lord is Your Strength." From Nehemiah 8, this verse is the response given by the Levites to the people who were hearing the lost words of the Law for the first time since their captivity. Hearing the Law so touched their hearts that they began mourning. Drawing on the Lord as their strength allowed them to rejoice greatly in this victory. I'm constantly reminded that I need the words of the Bible to strengthen me.
